Followup: YP August Event – BBQ at Green Lake

We had another great Young Professionals event this month! Although the weather got a bit chilly on Saturday, 14 YPs from all over Seattle attended. Hardev Juj also joined us. He was the section chair 1992-1993 and is retired from BPA as VP of Transmission Planning.

Followup: Young Professionals Informal Meetup Seattle

The IEEE YP informal social was successful. A dozen people signed up but only half attended. Despite the low number of attendees, the group was very diverse  – utility, consulting, manufacturing, small business, and the Army Core of Engineers.  We had some excellent group discussions including preparation for the PE license, impact of electric vehicles on the grid, the practical use of alternative energy, and the future direction of the Energy industry in the United States. The tour of the Bonneville Power Administration’s HVDC Celilo Converter Station took place on September 11, 2014. We had 15 people sign up for the tour and 13 attend, including 3 from the IEEE PES Richland Chapter. Some photos taken during the event follow.

Followup: PowerSimulator System Operator Training

The PowerSimulator System Operator Training was held on June 28, 2014. This half-day workshop was hosted at Seattle University. The participants learned basics of system operation, and simulated a power system in real-time, responding to outages, sabotage and voltage collapse.
