Followup: YP Event at TechCity Bowling

The IEEE YP event held Friday Feb 12th 2016 was a success! 17 YP’s attended from differing professionals including aerospace, computing, power systems, information technology, computer science, and the government. One of the YP put as “By far, the best IEEE event for YP’s in the Seattle area.” The fun and excitement from bowling coupled with meeting new people and networking certainly made this an enjoyable social event. Event planning and summer planning also took place. Join us for the next YP event!

Followup: YP Paintball

The April YP event was a success! Twenty-two (22) YPs all over Seattle attended this event. Thomas Wu from Panasonic Avionics gave a short talk prior to the games. He spoke about his work as a System Integration Engineer for commercial airlines. A good discussion followed suit on the changing workplace for engineers and Young Professionals today. Everyone enjoyed the open-discussion environment, and many contributed to the discussion. Student attendees also enjoyed the networking opportunity with YPs. They asked insightful questions about jobs, interviews, and industry outlook.

2016 Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award to Sarah Davis

Sarah Davis works at Puget Sound Energy as an Electrical Engineer. Over the past several years, she held various positions including transmission and distribution Protection Engineer, Energy Delivery Engineer, and currently, she is a senior engineer in the Transmission Policy and Contracts team. Sarah is a talented Young Engineer who has made a significant impact in various capacities at PSE. Sarah graduated from UW with a degree BSEE and later earned her MSEE from the same university. She is an IEEE Member and a judging coordinator for the Washington Future City competition.

2016 Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award to Steve Szablya

Steve Szablya was awarded the 2016 PES Outstanding Engineer of the year for his many years of holding volunteer positions in IEEE and other nonprofit organizations such as Engineers Without Borders, his support of power and energy in higher education and his significant effort in 2016 for KWH, Kilowatts for Humanity KWH Website.
