February 16 @ 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm

Speaker: Dr. Mani Vadari, Modern Grid Solutions
Title – Delivering energy instead of Gas or electricity. The move to an Energy Agnostic future

Abstract: As states and cities look to electrify, utilities are becoming both supply and delivery constrained. How do we solve this problem both in the planning domain and the operational domain.

The Talk: Utilities deliver both gas and electricity to their customers. However, as cities and states look to electrify, more of the load is moving from Natural gas to electricity. This move is happening at the same time that the electric supply is moving away from traditional sources such as coal and Natural gas to renewables. This is creating both supply side constraints and delivery constraints. In this talk we will discuss tis situation, some options and some steps that we are taking.

Bio: IEEE Fellow, electricity industry visionary, and leader, Dr. Vadari delivers strategic services to a global set of smart grid companies (utilities, vendors, and service providers) seeking deep subject matter expertise in setting the business and technical direction to develop the next-generation electric/energy system. Dr. Vadari has been delivering solutions focusing on Transmission/Distribution/ generation operations, Energy markets, and Smart Grid for over 35 years. A Smart Grid and Smart Cities expert, he offers sought-after perspectives on the electric value chain. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at Washington State University, an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington, and a technical consultant to the New York State Smart Grid Consortium, where he held an architecture role in the core REV team. Mani has published two popular books, “Smart Grid Redefined: Transformation of the Electric Utility” and “Electric System Operations – Evolving to the Modern Grid, 2nd Edition”, in addition to over a hundred industry papers, articles, and blogs. His books are serving as textbooks at several universities both in the US and around the world.
