Title: UW’s Energy Renewal
Abstract: The energy systems at UW’s Seattle campus are in need of renewal, and that renewal is taking the form of a major transformation of how the UW heats, cools, and provides electricity to its buildings. The motivation behind UW’s energy renewal is not only an effort to eliminate direct carbon emissions and comply with state legislation to decarbonize. It is also an effort to address aging infrastructure, energy efficiency, climate adaptation, and energy resiliency. This seminar will delve into UW’s 5-part energy strategy and how each of the elements contributes to addressing UW’s goals. While some of the proposed solutions are unique to UW’s local environment, the principles behind the renewal have applicability to many situations beyond the UW.
