2016 Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award to Steve Szablya

Steve Szablya was awarded the 2016 PES Outstanding Engineer of the year for his many years of holding volunteer positions in IEEE and other nonprofit organizations such as Engineers Without Borders, his support of power and energy in higher education and his significant effort in 2016 for KWH, Kilowatts for Humanity KWH Website.

2014 Outstanding Engineer of the Year Award to Betty Tobin

Elisabeth A, (Betty) Tobin is the Senior Manager for Planning, Engineering and Technical Services at Snohomish County PUD #1. Her responsibilities include managerial oversight for engineering related to transmission, distribution, system planning and protection, operational technologies, standards, joint use, plat development, Everett customer engineering, GIS, Maps & Records, and Drafting. Betty has been at Snohomish County PUD #1 for 9 years and, prior to that, spent 27 years in various engineering and management positions at Seattle City Light.

2014 Outstanding Young Engineer of the Year Award to Louis Tibbs

With 7 years in the energy industry, Louis Tibbs is an outstanding early-career contributor to power engineering and the community. He is a Senior Engineer in the Substation Protection group at Puget Sound Energy. At Puget Sound Energy he is a mentor, trainer and recruiter for our industry. He teaches basic electricity to apprentice electricians. Louis is a repeat volunteer on the committee for the regional Future City Competition within the state of Washington which helps middle school students learn about the science and engineering disciplines with real life city design scenarios. He makes technical presentations on utility industry equipment and operations to internal and external organizations such as at the annual Western Protective Relay Conference. He is involved in the Big Brothers Program, mentoring young men to better deal with life and learning challenges. Louis is a leader by example and represents the highest standard of our engineering profession.

2013 Outstanding Engineer Award to Greg Zeller, PE

Greg Zeller is the Director, Customer Care at Puget Sound Energy. In his 41st year with Puget Sound Energy (and Puget Sound Power & Light), he has extensive background in all aspects of utility operations.  Prior to this position he served as Director Engineering overseeing the day-to-day functions of PSE electric and gas engineering including generation, transmission, distribution, substation, control/protection engineering.
