The tour of the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention went very well. We had around twenty people in attendance.
We held a raffle for all attendees for an autographed copy of Spark Museum Co-CEO John Jenkin’s book “Where Discovery Sparks Imagination”. The winner was John Somerville. Congrats!
We are proud to announce that the IEEE PES Seattle Chapter won the 2014 IEEE PES Outstanding Chapter Award for the Large Chapter Category. And two engineers from the Seattle region received awards as well. Pictures follow.
The VIP Hardhat Tour of the Grand Coulee Dam was fantastic. We had 18 attendees accompanied by numerous Grand Coulee Dam staff members. The tour lasted over four hours allowing us to see extensive portions of the dam. The large photo collection below is testament to the tour. Followup: Disruptive Trends in the Traditional Utility/Energy Space: How the Utility Business Model is Evolving
Dr. Bartosz Wojszczyk kept attendees at the edge of their seats while giving an engaging and exciting presentation on disruptive technologies in the energy industry. Approximately 23 people attended from all over the industry. Based on the feedback received, this Young Professional event which was co-sponsored by the IEEE PES Seattle and IEEE PES Region 6, was rather successful. Join us for the next IEEE event!
Although it was a small group, we picked up two people from Oak Harbor and both were associated with that Cityâ€™s water district. We spent over 2.5 hours at the plant. The tour was extensive and very informative on the treatment, operations, power and control of the plant. The plant and tour was very well run. There was another tour, American Water Association ending just as we started.

The standards overview talk went super well. We had 32 attendees and some great networking went on before and after the meeting – I am told people didn’t want to leave!

We had 18 people attend the Flat Stick PUB social â€“ most were IEEE PES members. It was a lively event with a mixed crowd. A fun game of mini-golf and a very intense competition of full-size Jenga was played. Overall, it was great to socialize with people from different part of the power and energy industry.

Some University of Washington Students recently went on a tour of Puget Sound Energy’s Wild Horse Wind and Solar Facility.
We had 25 students and 5 IEEE PES members in attendance.
